Stepping inside a new Rolls-Royce is like stepping through a portal from the 1920s to the future, as each car features more technology and luxury than most houses in Beverly Hills. As it turns out, customers have almost complete control of what goes into these palaces on wheels, able to choose everything from the type of leather in the seats to the hood ornament. The process for customizing your own Rolls isn't as simple as building one on the dealership website, but we can now witness part of the process thanks to Goodwood.
Goodwood Road & Racing's Youtube channel posted a video Tuesday that gives us a glimpse into the lengthy process of tailoring a Rolls-Royce to the needs of each customer. Rolls-Royce Bespoke Sales Manager Nick Osy de Zegwaart, whose accent is as soothing as his name, takes Goodwood on a private tour of the Rolls-Royce Commissioning Suite. This center is where Rolls brings each of its customers to talk about designing every detail of the car for owners to make their Rolls-Royce unique.
On the wall, we can see a small sample of the impressive color palette Rolls has available, and owners can see how the two shades they choose will look on their cars; there is even a special light that simulates how the paint reacts to light in different parts of the globe. Customers can also choose from a selection of interior options including leather material, plus our personal favorite: being able to embroider a picture such as a family crest into the seats. Last but not least, owners can choose the color of their door umbrellas; like Mr. Osy de Zegwaart said, it wouldn't be a Rolls-Royce if there wasn't insane attention to detail.
